I was in the car with my wife on Friday and, to make the trip go a little quicker, I opted for one of my favourite 80s soundtrack albums. Footloose.
A few songs in, we came to this week’s tune. It’s one that I had completely, inexplicably forgotten was on there. When I heard it, it brought back some powerful childhood memories. I knew this song way before I’d seen Kevin Bacon play chicken in a tractor.
Dad used to play it in his car when we drove around and I can only have been about 8 or 9 years old at the time. The song had a mythical, adventurous quality to me and, as an imaginative child, I used to invent all kinds of scenarios for who the ‘hero’ might be. Usually they involved Lego or Star Wars figures!
It was written by (and you’ll recognise the style, I’m sure) Jim Steinman and Dean Pitchford specifically for the film.
Hope you enjoy it.
If you did, be sure to check out a few more of my Monday Music posts.
Thanks for reading,
Richard
