After a conversation in the playground the other day, I decided it was time to scratch the itch that is Choccy Chicken. Years have passed and I’ve never quite got this idea out of my system. Now seemed like as good a time as any.
This all starts when I was at Middle School. Apart from learning about crop rotation and falling in love with an auburn-haired girl on the cover of a book in the library, I will always remember one particular lesson where we were tasked with inventing a new food product and design packaging for it. My idea was to combine two things I loved so dearly: succulent roast chicken and smooth milk chocolate. So, choccy chicken was born.
Acquaintances, friends and adults alike mostly said that I was sick and the idea was an abomination. I could never quite forget about it. Every so often I remember this idea and think how I’ve never tried it to be sure. This week I decided I could wait no longer. Obviously, having been vegetarian for 7 years now, chicken was going to be an issue. I opted for some Quorn pieces instead, and coated them in milk chocolate.
I couldn’t design a product without thinking up some packaging for it, and I also needed a jingle for the advert (once this idea takes off, which let’s face it, is inevitable). With some help from a couple of enthusiastic kids at school, I worked up this… (to the tune of Deck the Halls)
Love the taste of Choccy Chicken
Fa la la la la la la la la
It’s the snack that can’t be beaten
Fa la la la la la la la la
Luscious chicken, tasty chocolate
Fa la la, fa la la, la la la
Get yourself some Choccy Chicken,
Cock-a-doodle-do, it’s good for you!
Here’s a clip of me eating it, along with a live version of the jingle.
I’ll get my coat.
Cheers,
Richard
