Firstly, a warning. If you’re not all caught up with Season 7’s events, probably best not to read this until you are. It contains details about who is alive at the end of Season 7.

So, following on from my last post, in which I laid out a few predictions for things I thought might happen in Season 8, I decided to expand my thinking a little bit and figure out who I thought might be left standing when the final curtain falls on the seven kingdoms. This is also something new – my first joint post with Mrs A. She had opinions of her own about who would make it to the end.
For each remaining character, we’re going to each give them a score out of ten. This score is their chance of survival in the upcoming six-episode finale. 10/10 means that they’re a nailed down certainty to be still alive at the end (not anticipating many of those) and 0/10 means that they’re just marking time before their inevitable death. Game of Thrones doesn’t always follow the usual narrative conventions of people getting what they deserve, even if there are some characters (Joffrey, Ramsey) who you just know are going to get their comeuppance at some point.
Those that are left are all kinds of shades of grey. The only pantomime villains left in the piece are probably Cersei (who’s admittedly more layered than that term suggests) and her zombie bodyguard but who would bet against her winning out at the end. The Night King is now the major antagonist and hey, he might just end up winning too. That’s the beauty of Game of Thrones; you never know.
So, let’s get started… for starters a big thankyou to Ian Sandwell at DigitalSpy for putting together a list of all the people who are still alive at the end of Season 7.
House Stark and Friends
Jon Snow
I know he’s already died, but he’s still moving around, walking, talking and fighting. Of all of the leads, I think he’s one of the most likely to survive. After all, he’s already had one big death scene. Two would be greedy.
My survival rating: 8/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 10/10
Arya
She’s been on such a journey as a character and she’s more than capable of looking after herself. Is she too sure of herself, though?
My survival rating: 6/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 8/10
Sansa
Sansa has survived through such brutality and emerged as a real contender to wield power at the end. She might have to fight dirty to get there, though, and that might put her at great risk. Mrs A thinks she’s a dead cert to survive.
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 10/10
Bran
I could go either way on the youngest remaining Stark. He could disappear into a tree for a thousand years or be killed while in the mind of a dragon.
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 10/10
Lyanna Mormont
Tough as nails and a great addition to the already brilliant cast of characters. She is only a child though, and I thought Shireen was going to be there at the end once.
My survival rating: 4/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 8/10
Brienne of Tarth
If anyone is going to survive to the end, I’m pretty certain it’s going to be Brienne. She could even be Commander of the King’s Guard by the end.
My survival rating: 9/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 7/10
Davos Seaworth
The wily smuggler has proved himself able to talk his way out of many situations. Is his luck nearly out, though?
My survival rating: 3/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 5/10
Podrick Payne
I’d love to see as many good people make it to the end as possible, but I can easily see him dying in an act of heroism to save someone else.
My survival rating: 4/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 8/10
Robett Glover
Northerners are tough. I’ll back him to still be there at the end.
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: who?
Meera Reed
I’m not sure what will become of her. She seems to have played out her storyline but there could be more yet to come
My survival rating: 2/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 3/10
House Lannister and Friends
Tyrion
I think everyone secretly wants the imp to survive and play some part at the end. As far as I’m concerned that means he’s going to die. I think he’ll betray Dany and Jon to get what he secretly desires; familial acceptance. Cersei will kill him. Mrs A disagrees.
My survival rating: 6/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 10/10
Jaime
As I said yesterday, I think Jaime has to die. He’ll get a hero’s death in which he’ll redeem himself for what he did to Bran. Mrs A gives him slightly more of a chance.
My survival rating: 1/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 3/10
Cersei
This is a tough one. Could go either way. If she’s going to die, it might have to be at the hands of Jaime unless Arya gets to strike off another one of her names personally.
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 6/10
Bronn
Will Bronn end up with his promised castle? I don’t think so. He’s got ‘falls in battle’ written all over him. Mrs A thinks he’ll get away with it.
My survival rating: 2/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 8/10
Qyburn
Frankenstein will be killed by his monster. That’s where my money is.
My survival rating: 1/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 1/10
Gregor Clegane
He’s still animate so he still counts. There’s no way he’ll be there at the end. the only question is; who will be the one (or two) to defeat him?
My survival rating: 0/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 1/10
House Targaryen and Friends
Daenerys
She’s been building up strength since the very beginning, on a journey that has seemed to be unstoppable at times. No-one’s untouchable in Westeros, though. I’m not sure we can expect a happy ending where Jon and Dany sit on the throne as Aunt and Nephew. There may be some bumps along that road!
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 10/10
Drogon
The biggest dragon, I think Drogon will be killed protecting his mother. Mrs A thinks he’ll make it.
My survival rating: 1/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 8/10
Rhaegar
Likewise, I think Rhaegar will be mortally wounded battling his ice dragon brother, Viserion.
My survival rating: 0/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 1/10
Jorah Mormont
Lord Friendzone as the ‘Honest Trailers’ people call him. He has purged himself of the greyscale but can he expect to see the finish line? I’m cautiously optimistic for him. Mrs A likes him and thinks he’ll make it.
My survival rating: 5/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 9/10
Varys
I can see him disappearing off into the sunset and being happy somewhere far away when it’s all done.
My survival rating: 8/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 5/10
Grey Worm
He’s a warrior and there’s a lot of warrior-ing to do between now and the end. He has someone to live for, but that doesn’t guarantee anything.
My survival rating: 4/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 1/10
Missandei
Could go either way on her, which probably means she’ll die horribly.
My survival rating: 5/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 5/10
Daario Naharis
I really can’t stand this character, so it’s hard not to let personal feelings get in my way. He’s too full of himself and that never ends well. Just ask Prince Oberyn.
My survival rating: 0/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 7/10
House Greyjoy
Theon
He’s got a habit of surviving, does Theon. Even though there’s less of him than at the beginning, he still seems a good bet to live. Having said that, he could be in line for a redemptive sacrifice (how many of those have I predicted already)
My survival rating: 8/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 7/10
Euron
No way is he going to live. If anything is certain, it’s that this guy will get what’s coming to him.
My survival rating: 0/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 1/10
Yara
I’d like to see her make it and finally get to rule the Ironborn.
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 7/10
House Arryn
Robin
My money’s on him being put through his own moon door!
My survival rating: 2/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 7/10
House Tyrell
Oh, they’re all dead, aren’t they?
House Tully
Edmure
People like Edmure usually get away with it. He’s a solid bet in my opinion to be alive at the end. Mrs A is more pessimistic in terms of his chances.
My survival rating: 8/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 3/10
House Baratheon
Gendry
Another good guy who’s been treated badly along the way. I think he could be there at the end. got a decent claim to the throne, too.
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 9/10
House Tarly and Friends
Samwell
It would be a real shame if one of the genuinely nice people was killed. He’s ridden his luck so much over the series, though. Pretty soon, the bill has to come due. It doesn’t help that he has a ‘surrogate son’ in little Sam who can live on. I can see a whole scene in which Gilly tells Sam all about the man who was his ‘father’ who died to get them to safety.
My survival rating: 6/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 10/10
Gilly
50/50. Either she dies protecting Sam or the other way around. I don’t think we’ll get many happy endings but I’d dearly love it if this were one.
My survival rating: 6/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 7/10
Sam
Yes, little Sam is safe in my opinion. It would be a very dark turn if anything were to happen to him.
My survival rating: 10/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 10/10
Melessa and Talla
Samwell’s mother and sister (can’t remember who’s who) are likely to survive in my opinion. They’re quite far away from the action and therefore probably safe.
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 7/10
Wildlings
Tormund Giantsbane
Another tricky one. Much as I think he’s going to be in the thick of battle and be swept up in the inevitable tide of bodies, something in me thinks he could just outlast a load of others in much safer conditions.
My survival rating: 6/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 2/10
Night’s Watch
Eddison Tollett
He’s still alive? I thought he was on the wall when it collapsed. Don’t know. Either way, he’s on the front line and I don’t rate his chances.
My survival rating: 1/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 5/10
Others
Sandor Clegane
Hard to kill. He’s one of my favourite characters and I’d love to see him survive. We thought he was dead before (OK, maybe we didn’t) and he turned up again. Tricky one
My survival rating: 7/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 8/10
Melisandre
The red woman. I think she’ll spend the last of her energy doing something massive to help (bigger than bringing Jon back) and it will kill her
My survival rating: 0/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 3/10
Jaqen H’ghar
Don’t know if we’ll see him again. I’d say he’s pretty safe. He could turn up in the style of Han Solo and save the day at some point but I doubt it.
My survival rating: 8/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 3/10
Beric Dondarrion
Another dead man walking, literally. In my opinion, he’s out of lives. He’ll be killed by a walker.
My survival rating: 0/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 2/10
Hot Pie
Think he’s safe, though winter has spread to where he is. He’s the kind of character we’ll just see sprawled on the floor covered in blood in some throwaway shot mid-season
My survival rating: 5/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 8/10
Tycho Nestoris
The bank manager? Yeah, he’ll survive. Money endures
My survival rating: 10/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 3/10
The Night King
The big bad. I’d be very surprised if he’s still around at the end. That would be different, I suppose, if he won and we just faded to black with him sitting on the iron throne- THE END
My survival rating: 2/10
Mrs A’s survival rating: 0/10
Thanks for reading. I was surprised how much we agreed on, even though I feel that she’s been over generous with the Starks. We’ll see!
