Saturday morning writing challenge. Target:2000 words. I’m back off to the wilds of Snowdonia. I left Paul Armstrong running from captivity, alone and with no idea where to go for help, with a search party hot on his trail.
Read more "Saturday is here again!"I promised some drawings of what I was thinking about in terms of as a look for the spacecraft which becomes the home of Paul Armstrong and the others as they go on their journey. You can see these drawings below. This is a rough idea, based around two rotating cylinders which create a gravity […]
Read more "X5 Concept Drawings"It’s Saturday morning again and time to write. I’ve got this competition entry to prepare so I don’t know whether to work on that and polish up Chapter 8 which I’m going to use as my entry OR I could add to what I’ve already got. As I said, I’m only 6000 words away from […]
Read more "Decisions"I’m reaching a point in the story now where my characters are about to end up in space, on a longer journey than has ever been attempted in history. Up until now, everything I have written has been grounded in reality: school, bus, underground bunker and wild in the mountains of Snowdonia. In about six […]
Read more "The Science in the Fiction"Saturday morning writing. Two and a bit hours – target: 1800 words. I’m in the middle of writing an escape scene, so hopefully the action nature of the scene will mean it spills out quite quick. I’ll be doing a long piece later on about research and how I’m approaching some of the more science […]
Read more "It’s that time again!"A quick note to say thank you for the positive comments and messages of good luck that have been coming in from people. You all show a great deal of faith considering I haven’t finished anything yet. It’s Saturday morning which means it’s my time to add to what I’ve written so far. This has […]
Read more "Thank you"I used to read quite a bit when I was at school. Not all the time. Sometimes I flicked through the reading scheme books and said I’d read them when maybe I hadn’t made it all the way through, so that I could move up to a different colour. It’s not that I couldn’t read […]
Read more "A tribute to Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone"Hi everyone, I’m going for it and entering a competition with some of my writing (one chapter plus a 1000 word summary). The closing date is 1st July. Looks like a really fair competition where all the entries get looked at with a view to publication. Now I just have to pick a chapter. Wish […]
Read more "Upcoming Competition Entry"Hi everyone, I realised I haven’t put any samples on the website yet. So, I’m going to put a sample on the website, which is here. Enjoy. This is from Chapter 11 “Why me? Why are you telling this to me?” “I trust you. I do not know why other than that. Come […]
Read more "New Sample"Admittedly, I’m quite new to writing in a serious way. This is the longest thing I’ve ever written. I just hit 38,000 words and this is just one of the things I’ve noticed. Sometimes I skip ahead a bit and see what a character is about to say or do. It’s the most bizarre feeling. […]
Read more "Characters and how they do stuff"Books, games, music, and life — filtered through the mind of a writer, drummer, and philosopher who thinks too deeply about all of it. If it moves something in your chest, I'm interested.
