AD Skinner – an X-Files poem for Cameron

Hi all,

A very generous donation of £15 to the cause from Cameron, a former student of mine. He requested a poem about the X-Files. I had a bit of a marathon a while back but stalled halfway through Season 2. that means it’s been an awful long time since I eatched anything beyond that.

Having said that, I was immediately drawn to write something about one of my favourite characters. Assistant Director Walter Skinner. Here goes…

AD Skinner

Meet Walter Skinner, a broad-shouldered guy,

Over the X-Files, he keeps a watchful eye,

A Vietnam vet, career on the rise,

A shining light of the FBI’s.

Into high office with a simple brief,

But being AD is just so much grief,

Veins sticking out of the side of your head,

As you coax your agents to more softy tread,

Bosses camped out in your office all day,

Leaving it stinking like a dirty ashtray,

The best agent you’ve got won’t do what you need,

Just hands you outlandish reports to read,

And the sane one you hired to keep him in line,

Well, dammit, they’re beginning to intertwine,

These two don’t give you a minute’s rest

Just case files piling up all over the desk,

And if you think you’re safe in a bubble bath,

Get real, Skin Man, you’re having a laugh.

Well, there you have it. Hope you enjoyed that, Cameron. Maybe I’ll tag Mitch Pileggi in and see what he thinks. Nice to do something more light-hearted after my last two pieces.

Cheers. here’s a link to the fundraiser…

And here’s me on YouTube performing it.
