Refuge – a poem

Hi everyone,

It’s National Poetry Day next week and the theme is ‘refuge’. So, I put together a little string of cinquains to mark the day. Hope you enjoy them.

Refuge

A home,

That’s all they need,

A place to sit and think,

Untroubled for some short moments,

By that.

That thing,

That’s always there,

Demanding attention,

A wound on the roof of your mouth,

For spite.

For laughs,

At their expense,

From life’s machinery,

Whose whirring and clicking goes on,

And on.

Each day,

Without respite,

If they have no bolt hole,

No home to lock it all outside,

And dream.

Dream on,

Dream of soft waves,

That lap at their bare feet,

In a time far away where all,

Is calm.

Cheers

Richard
