Some Woodland Haikus

Hello there,

I was lucky enough to get some time in the woods today, enjoying the sunshine and staring at trees. I wanted to make use of the time so I wrote some haikus about the most interesting trees that I saw.

Veins beneath the bark,

Twisting to a new aspect,

Changed its mind halfway.

Moss-covered corkscrew,

Reaching, bending to the light,

Every inch a scar.

____

Long tale of its path,

Upwards then, ever upwards,

Blanket clinging tight.

Something didn’t work,

Skeleton in place, but no.

Straight up to nothing.

____

Pathetic trappings,

Draped on as a mockery,

Lipstick on a corpse.

Slinky, neat and tall,

Dressed up fine in skin-tight green,

Hair a bloody mess.

Three weary brothers,

So close and yet so distant,

One withers unseen.

She was sacrificed,

But stood among them always,

Refusing to fade.

___

Reminder for all,

Of how they ignored her needs,

That they could be next.

Well, there you go. Couldn’t do a video to go with them but hopefully the pictures do it justice. Some lovely woodland round here where I live and work. I’m very lucky!

Thanks for reading,

Richard
